The Sky is Falling

If Chicken Little were here in Ecuador today, I wonder what he would think. No, the sky isn't falling, but the ash is. Yep, Mt. Tungurahua (Toong-a-rah-wah) is at it again, and this time much worse than before (see first blog entry for more info). It has been threatening to blow for a couple weeks and finally lived up to its promise. Yesterday afternoon the rumblings began and continued all through the evening and night. Last night we went to our roof and watched the lava flowing down. We went to bed wondering what we would encounter when the morning came.

When daybreak came there was an odd, eery silence. There wasn't a sound, a vehicle, not a person in sight. The sky was green, and everything in sight was covered with a good inch of ash. It continued to fall, and is still falling even now into the evening.

We lost power for a time this afternoon but are back up and running now. We spent several hours outside with the neighbors sweeping and shoveling up as much as possible. We filled 11 large garbage bags full! Driving on the ash is like driving on ice, so right now there are no buses running. All 3 girls went to Alausi (an hour and a half away) on Monday to spend a couple days with friends. We were supposed to go pick them up today, but we'll have to wait until the roads are clear. We're thankful to the Lord for His provision and watchcare over them as well as us. Posted by Picasa

Wow! A picture(s)truly is worth a thousand words. It helps to better appreciate what things are really like there. Nice presentation-both written & pictorial. What a great job sharing about the volcano but also highlighting the girls. PTL for His care.
