Where is Your Treasure?

We went up to Quito to take Tracy's parents to the airport and stayed overnight. During our three hour trip back home we were reminded of the temporality of earthly possessions. We received a phone call from our co-worker that our house had been broken into and many things were stolen. The robbers had pried the metal bars off the window and then broke the glass to enter the house. They knew what they were looking for and took mainly electronics--piano keyboard, desktop computer, digital camera, and walkmans as well as Tracy's jewelry.

Immediately the verses in Matthew 6:20-21 came to our minds, "But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth nor rust corrupts, and where thieves do not break through and steal; for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also." We were thankful for safety and protection and we know that those things can be replaced in the future. We are thankful as well for a sweet spirit from our girls regarding their stolen items. Ashley gave Tracy a big hug and said she was praying for her; Laura offered us her five dollars with the sweetest of smiles (she didn't know it had been robbed!). ''Giving thanks always for all things . . .''
