Where's the Wi-Fi?

These are just a few interesting facts that we gleaned from the local newspaper about the use of technology in the country. Did you know that . . .
  • 93% of households have a color television and only 50% have a telephone line?
  • only 41% of the population has used a computer in their lifetime?
  • that almost 40% of Ecuadorians access the internet in cybercafes instead of in their homes?
  • in regards to internet access, 43.4 % of households have dial-up, 52.3% have "high speed"; and only 3.4% have Wi-Fi?
There are only a few wireless "hot spots" in Riobamba. When we travel to Quito, there are definitely more there. It seems that it always takes longer for technology to "arrive" in Riobamba than in Quito. We are thankful for the "miracle" of our internet connection and router at home.
