One Heart at a Time (By Ashley)

Darkness settles in your soul again
As you wonder what you've done for your fellow men.
What have you done to change the world?
Have your good or bad qualities been unfurled?
Your mind travels back to a time long gone,
As you ask, "What if so much more I had done?"
But you can't change the past; it is now o'er.
Don't waste your time wishing you had done more.
Look to right now, for THIS is your chance
To help all of humanity, with simply a glance.
A glance filled with the love of Who you're living for
Can change someone's outlook, change their very core.
Sometimes all that is needed to change someone's life
Is a sympathetic smile in adversity and strife.
Maybe a hurting friend just needs someone to say
Something OTHER than, "Everything will be okay."
Perhaps they need more than assurances hollow;
Perhaps empty words are more than they can swallow.
What they really need is a listening ear;
Someone who WITH them will shed just one tear.
Maybe there is someone at your work or your school
Who doesn't fit in; they just are not "cool."
One day you see an opportunity
To show them some kindness, some courtesy.
Do you take it, or do you keep walking by?
Do you forfeit the chance to give a warm, friendly "Hi"?
For no matter how hard you try, it can never be known
Just how much someone is feeling alone.
Perhaps just one more lonely day makes them feel so much pain
That they go home, overdose on acetaminophen.
What if you had reached out, tried to make their hurt less?
But now it's too late; all you can do now is guess.
Remember-- God never asked you to change MILLIONS of souls;
He didn't ask you to patch ALL of society's holes.
He doesn't care if you donate 10,000 grand;
Concerning changing the world, he gives one simple command--
"Show MY love to the world, MY love's all that it needs.
"Put off all your selfishness, contempt, and conceit.
All that I ask, O dear child of mine,
Is that you show My love to just ONE heart at a time."
