Happy Thanksgiving

Today we will celebrate the American holiday Thanksgiving, that one special day of the year when we stop and reflect and give thanks to God for His goodness and mercy and His many, many blessings in our lives. There are so many Bible passages which focus on giving thanks to the Lord. One of our favorites is Psalm 92:1-2 which states:

It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord, and to sing praises unto thy name, O Most High;

To show forth thy loving-kindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night.

Here in Ecuador Thanksgiving Day is not a holiday. Although Ecuador would be considered by many to be a "religious" nation, it does not dedicate a day for giving thanks to God. They pay homage to various saints with special days; there are holidays to remember historic events; they even celebrate Labor Day to give the workers a rest. However, they do not recognize God for the gracious provider that He is; they do not dedicate a day to give Him thanks. But we consider it a great privilege to gather together with our co-workers to celebrate Thanksgiving. It is always a special day as we enjoy a true "feast" much as the pilgrims and Indians did, giving thanks to God for his daily provision in our lives. It's a fun day to enjoy fellowship, prayer and games together (and watch some good old American Football!). We always have so much to be thankful for each and every day!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING
