Ahhh, Java! So Sweet!

As is customary after every Bible study or church service, we are usually served a "cafecito," or small snack. The nationals will serve bread with cheese along with a cup of coffee, tea, or even hot chocolate, which is very enjoyable since we live above 9,000 feet and it can get quite chilly in the evenings. Most of them do not have a coffee maker, so they boil water on the stove top, pour in the instant coffee and then add a bunch of sugar. To make tea, they utilize regular tea bags or use dried herbal leaves. They enjoy their coffee or tea sweetened!! Of course all of our girls have grown to love to drink coffee or tea. In fact it's hard to enjoy a cup of our own in the morning without hearing the words, "Can I have some?"

We live in "coffee country," but all of the good beans are exported. It's hard to find a good bag of whole bean coffee pleasing to the palate. We found a brand from the states we really love, which ironically is called "Tip of the Andes." The beans are harvested here in South America, exported to the United States, roasted and packaged, purchased by us, and brought right back to where they started! Ahhh, java . . . a great start to our day!
