Tungurahua, An Active Volcano

This was the view from our front porch a couple of weeks before the big eruption. Tungurahua is located more than an hour away from our house. About a month ago, the volcano erupted--spewing lava and rocks, and a huge cloud of ash. 45 centimeters of volcanic ash fell on the surrounding towns at the base of the volcano. Some of the volcanic ash fell at our home, which we collected in a small container as a souvenir. The volcano remains active and the ash is still in the air.
