Road Closure?
Here in Ecuador anything goes on the roads. Dogs, chickens, donkeys, cows, and even people run out in the road in front of you. The worst thing is when you are planning a trip and you hear the word "paro" which means strike. If a group wants to protest to the government, they just put huge logs and tires which they burn in the middle of the road. Of course this shuts down traffic from both sides and causes a huge mess. Bill had to travel to Quito to pick up Tracy and heard that the Quechua Indians were talking about striking. When they strike, they not only close the major road but the side roads as well. Bill left in the afternoon, went through the first toll booth and the lady told him that there was no traffic moving to the north. When he reached the second toll, the man told him that traffic was flowing normal. Bill had been praying all day that the Lord would open up the road. During the drive there were about 10 different places where the strikers had piled up smoldering tires, but Bill was able to get through, pick up Tracy and get back home with no problems at all! Praise the Lord!
